Helping children soar:
Helping children soar—children develop a love for exploring, learning and asking questions about the world around them as they become independent, life-long learners and critical thinkers.
Helping children soar—children find their own unique strengths, talents and capabilities. We believe that supporting families and educators with current, reliable information and effective strategies from research AND practice in child development, and pedagogy is integral to creating a context where children can develop to their fullest and into most full-filled individuals.
Helping children soar also means to create supportive and healthy communities around them. We see education as a step towards providing families and communities with tools and knowledge that lead to informed decision-making while honoring individual differences in culture, parenting approaches and learning styles of our children.
About Patricia Jarvis, Ph.D.:
Patricia Jarvis, PhD. is founder and director of KinderSmart. As education faculty, Patricia has taught at the University of Maryland, Arizona State University and the University of Washington. She has held positions as teacher, immersion program educator, study-abroad faculty, director of curriculum development, research associate, editor, author, and parent educator.
After many years in graduate school and a focus on educational leadership and policy studies, her own interest in bridging the gap between research and practice has led her into many schools and education contexts where she connected with inspiring educators, teachers, administrators, parents and children. Her current projects include a publication on teacher professional development and reflective care, teacher preparation and mentoring, and parent workshops.
Since its founding, KinderSmart has evolved and now consists of a network of educators, researchers and parents all of whom I truly thank for their tireless efforts, vision, and courage to not only dream but create a world where continue to seek knowledge, love, nurture and care for those around us and the children in our care.
