Learning and Child Development Workshops:

Assessment Methods:
How do we know what they know AND can do? Professional Development Series
This workshop focuses on assessment practices and alternative assessment models in the areas of elementary mathematics and literacy. Topic areas include an exploration of meaningful assessment strategies with a focus on student learning. We address integrated assessment for learning, authentic and performance assessment with a focus on mathematics.

Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning:
Transforming they way we teach and learn. Professional Development
This workshop focuses on exploring the ideas of inquiry-based teaching and learning in classrooms. Teachers will be actively engaged and have hands-on opportunities to explore the notion of inquiry as a pedagogy and a way to enhance their own practice. This workshop draws heavily on the ideas of constructivist teaching and collaborative learning opportunities.

Mathematics: Learning for Understanding
Parent Education and Professional Development Series
This workshop focuses on mathematical reasoning in the elementary school years. We provide an overview of the cognitive processes involved in gaining mathematical understanding. We also explore current pedagogy and approaches to integrated mathematics. We exchange collaboratively how parents and educators can support mathematics as an integral part of children's daily experiences. . . because "math in a book just sits there"!

Mathematics: Widening the Circle
Professional Development
This workshop is part of the mathematics professional development series and focuses on integrating literacy and math instruction to strengthen students' conceptual understanding of math and writing skills. We disuss curriculum models, implementation and practical ways to integrate this approach into an existing curriculum. We also address community approaches to mathematics teacing and learning at home and in schools.

Mentoring: Compassion, Confidence, Guidance
Professional Development
This workshop is aimed at educators who are interested in becoming mentors for other educators either in their school or for teacher candidates. We provide support for the mentors, facilitate group discussion and dialogue, address successful mentoring strategies and provide resources for the mentors to aide in positive relationship building and navigating the mentoring role.

Reflective Care and Intentional Teaching:
Journaling in Early Childhood Education Settings. Professional Development
This workshop is part of a multi-dimensional professional development program for early education settings. The program includes introduction to journaling as a tool for observation, reflection and intentional care and teaching.Components of the program include a multi-week program and in-depth collaboration for professional development purposes.

Research and Practice Series.
Professional Development
This seminar for educators focuses on identifying sources of research, practice models and support as identified through group discussion and individual consultations with our group. This approach can be delivered as part of a PD program at a school or online. We also include oppprtunities for starting an educators'driven collaborative in your community and can either facilitate the group or help implement an ongoing group.

Teachers as Researcher: Call to Action
Professional Development
This workshop is an extended program that provides teachers with the oppportunity to reflect on their own practice and contribute to sharing their experience and knowledge with broader audiences. We will facilitate action research opportunities, provide teacher support for those projects, and also introduce a reflective tool teachers can use long-term and on their own once the series is complete. Sessions are between 6-12 weeks in length and can be scheduled as part of ongoing professional development or as an online seminar.

This workshop is part of the parent education sequence. We provide an overview of literacy development from the first stages to development of comprehension and writing skills across the elementarty school years. We focus on how to support and connect literacy with meaning for our children and how to help develop a love for reading and writing.
